Mr. President,
Enhancement of dialogue and international cooperation is a prerequisite for promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms. Without the realization of human rights peacebuilding efforts can neither materialize nor become sustainable.
We believe that universally agreed human rights standards offer a normative framework essential to prevent and address conflicts, whilst recognizing that the specific realization of human rights may vary across contexts. Taking into account that peacebuilding requires country-tailored strategies based on principles of national ownership, leadership and inclusivity, embedding our collective peacebuilding efforts within a framework of internationally-recognized human rights norms contributes to their effectiveness and long-term sustainability. This enhances dialogue among all actors as well as strengthen institutions which promote and protect human right.
In line with the SDGs, for building peaceful and inclusive societies, in particular, post-conflict societies, international cooperation plays a crucial role. International cooperation not only provides solid platform for genuine peacebuilding efforts but also facilitate in strengthening transitional justice mechanisms and promotes reconciliation, and harmony in such societies. Enhancement of dialogue backed by international cooperation also contributes to peacebuilding efforts and assists in building peaceful and inclusive societies.
We would like to seek the views of the panelists what role United Nations can play in enhancing dialogue for promoting international cooperation for peacebuilding.
I thank you.
