Mr. President,
I make this statement on behalf of OIC member states.
Islam is a religion of peace. Conception of peace in Islam begins with attribution of Peace as the Divine name, since the Arabic word for peace -Salam- is one of the ninety nine names of God.
Mr. President,
Economic equality and international cooperation and solidarity are the essential building blocks for creation of a just and peaceful world. The world history has proven time and again that unjust structures and systems are bound to fail.
The international financial and trading system based on equality, and respect for all human rights including right to development can promote peaceful and prosperous world.
The UN Charter and various UN resolutions along with the human rights mechanisms provide guidelines to pursue objectives of achieving peace through international solidarity and cooperation. The realization of economic, social and cultural rights is of key importance to ensure peaceful societies through international cooperation and a firm commitment to sustainable development. At the same time, it is of crucial importance to uphold the fundamental principles of state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs of other states.
Mr. President,
We believe that the best way to resolve disputes and conflicts, and acquiring sustainable peace is through meaningful dialogue and international solidarity as a mean to international cooperation and constructive engagement.
Today, when the world is faced with rising nationalism leading to xenophobia, hate speech, stigmatization and discrimination, we need to show our strong resolve for upholding shared human values through intercultural dialogue and cooperation. Inculcation of patience, tolerance and respect for each other’s values, culture and religions is the key for ensuring a peaceful world.
I thank you.
